When Oil Hits 200 A Barrel, What Can We Do To Offset The Costs?

Today I was listening to the news on the radio and low and behold a report was given on the rise of a barrel of oil and that within about 1 year it could hit $200.00 per barrel.

When I picked up my heart from off the floor I thought of what could I do to alleviate the erosion of my spending money since at that price it impotence remedy almost be none existent.

I was talking to a friend today and he mentioned that he filled up his van and car plus got a bit of gas for his lawnmower and guess how much he paid? $150.00 and if oil goes to $200.00 per barrel that would rise to $250.00 - $300.00 now where is there going to be enough money to feed a family. I imagine gardens are going to become very popular again, energy efficient vehicles and alternative energy.

There are a number of conservation techniques that we can do to help save some money.

  • Insulate your home so it is more efficient by reducing heat in the summer so you use less air conditioning and by stopping drafts in the winter it reduces the need for heat.
  • Eat at home - This is a bit odd isn’t it. Think of the energy it takes to go out. By eating at home during the winter the stove adds heat to the house.
  • Plan your trips to make the best use of your car.
  • Ride a bicycle or walk to work if you can.
  • Make sure your tire pressure is correct for the tires on your vehicle.
  • Um, I know you like to drive like the wind since you are always running behind but if you drive the speed limit you will save.
  • Here is a tip I never thought of since most cars these days have computers to tell you and your insurance quotes on line almost everything then controls your engine if you always change gas stations for the cheapest fuel you conference call rates find that your gas mileage will fluctuate. If you use the same gas station all the time you may find that your gas mileage actually goes up.

  • If you are in a windy place why not look into a wind generator.
  • If you are in a sunny place why not consider solar energy.
  • If you have old energy hogs like an old refrigerator replace them with energy star appliances.
  • Have you ever thought of inline hot water heaters? Why not take a look at how much energy and water you will be saving.
